Saga Systems Vision: Our Story and Purpose

Saga Systems began with a simple but difficult question: How do we make sense of what works when everything is connected, and nothing stands still?

Research and evaluation often begin with a clear set of questions, a plan and an intended outcome. But in the real world, there are always more moving parts. Every person and every dataset has a story, shaped by the systems around them — services, funding, policy, relationships, social expectations and environments.

Understanding what happened is only part of the story. We also want to understand how, why, for whom and under what conditions. These patterns can help explain why the same approach works differently in different places, for different people, or at different times — and where there may be opportunities for change.

That is where Saga comes in.

Our vision is to support evidence-informed decision-making that is grounded in data, shaped by lived experience and responsive to the systems in which people and organisations operate.

The name Saga reflects the importance of stories that are layered, personal and evolving. In Norse tradition, a saga tells of journeys, choices and consequences — a fitting metaphor for work that seeks to understand complexity and find meaning across lived experience, data and patterns.

Our interwoven knot represents the connections between people, processes and outcomes. Systems are rarely linear; when one thread shifts, others can shift with it. But with careful inquiry, patterns emerge.
